Beyond encrypted storage

Record workflow

Encrypted storage protects files at rest. Darkroom adds a local record workflow for organizing context, inspecting changes, and sharing reviewable packages.

Darkroom is in alpha. Alpha testing now includes macOS, Linux, and Windows test builds, but there is no public app download yet. The standalone verifier is public, but no tagged verifier release is available yet.

Inside the workspace

Files and records

A workspace contains collections. Collections group files and records so related material stays together.

Files hold prose and references. Records contain contacts, images, attachments, places, conversations, or tables.

Working with records

The record workflow

Organize

Keep prose, source material, and typed records together in one local workspace.

Seal

When you want a stored comparison point, save a digital fingerprint of a record’s ID, type, and content. Sealing prevents content edits until you unseal it.

Review

Inspect changes in the encrypted Audit log when you need to. It is not an unchangeable history.

Export and verify

Export readable PDFs, a manifest, and optional originals. Unsealed records can also be exported. The standalone verifier checks package consistency offline.

A clear boundary

What verification checks

The verifier validates package structure and recomputes hashes for record content, Seals, and included originals. It does not verify PDF bytes or establish authorship or source truth. To detect replacement of the whole package, compare the manifest hashes with values obtained from a separately trusted source.
